Our Team

  • Psychological Associate working under the supervision of Dr. Ryan.

My name is McDonald (Mac) Porter, M.A. I am a relational–narrative therapist who specializes in working with adolescents, adults, and families, with particular focus on supporting healthy development and healing from traumatic experiences. As a relational–narrative therapist, I’m especially interested in the network of relationships that shape a our lives, as well as the internal stories we hold about who we are and how we move through the world.

Outside of my work in mental health, I enjoy following football, hockey, and baseball; spending time outdoors hiking and camping; playing board games (especially chess); and learning about history.

  • Psychological Associate supervised by Dr. Ryan.

You may feel stuck in the same emotional or relationship patterns, drawn to the same fears, conflicts, or disappointments, no matter how hard you try to change. You want to understand yourself more deeply and live in a way that feels real and authentic. Beneath the anxiety, depression, or pain in relationships is a longing to feel more alive and connected. Our work will help you face what’s been avoided, understand yourself honestly, and begin building a life that truly feels like yours.

  • Psychologist

In our work together, I’ll help you pay close attention to what you’re feeling in the moment and what those feelings are asking for. We’ll move at a pace that feels respectful and grounded, facing what’s been avoided, understanding yourself with honesty and compassion, and beginning to build a life that truly feels like yours.

I work with adults and older adults navigating emotional struggles, trauma, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I see individuals, couples, and parent–adult-child pairs. I believe therapy should be accessible, and I accept insurance so you don’t have to deal with reimbursement hassles or barriers to getting care. I offer in-person appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays in my downtown Berkeley office.
